Woman, Yoga and MeditationToday we are going to talk about relaxation techniques for stress. That is an important subject to talk about if we want to manage stress and be healthy.

Stress is a normal human reaction. Everybody is feeling stress one way or another and it is not bad. Chronic stress is what is bad for us and our health. That one is needed to be dealt with if we really want to live healthy lives.

Honestly, I think there is more long-term stress than it used to be before in our history. So we need to do all we can if we want to be more relaxed and enjoy our lives.

Relaxation Techniques for Stress

Here you can read about relaxation techniques for stress. Eight tips that can help you in times of stress.

1. Meditation

In my opinion, meditation is the best tool, the best relaxation technique that there is to deal with stress and improve your mental health in the best way possible. There are thousands of ways how to do meditation and basically, every single person who meditates does this their own way.

I have written more than one post about meditation and published it on this website. I believe that meditation helped me to deal with stress-caused rash and anxiety when I was in high school. Honestly, I was even thinking that I would need to deal with that all my life, but it disappeared. Thank God! 🙂

2. Deep breathing

Breathing meditationBreathing is so important to us, we breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide (CO2).

We can also think that we breathe in light and breathe out negativity and stress. I was doing that kind of meditative practice with breathing.

Let’s be honest breathing is our lifeline, without that we would not exist and wouldn’t be alive. We can also release stress with proper breathing. Deep breathing can help you with that.

Firstly, we need to find out what is deep breathing. So basically deep breathing is a type of breathing where you need to take a deep breath in.

It involves breathing in slowly through the nose, then out through the mouth using the diaphragm. This way of breathing makes you more relaxed, and less stressed and lowers blood pressure and heart rate.

Different breathing techniques are also used in meditation, yoga, and other kinds of relaxation techniques.

3. Aromatherapy

Aroma diffuserAromatherapy is another good way to relax and even reduce the stress that you are feeling.

A while ago I wrote a post on this website about how aromatherapy can help with stress relief.

There are some studies that prove that aromatherapy really works for relaxation, stress, and anxiety relief. I have even experienced that myself when I was stressed and had a headache after using my diffuser with lavender essential oil. My headache was gone and I felt relaxed.

Aromatherapy may not work for everyone in one way or another. I am saying that because there are people who are skeptical about it. I would suggest you try it, it is really relaxing and helps with stress.

4. Tai Chi

When I saw a few videos of Tai Chi at first, I wanted to learn, but you know, life happened and I was not able to do it at that time (watch the video below). Still, wanna try at some point.

Tai Chi can help you not only with improving your physical health but there are meditative aspects that can help you relax and better deal with stress.

This practice can improve our moods and reduce stress, anxiety, and the effects of depression. Aren’t we what to be happier and feel relaxed and overall better? Right? This relaxation method may be the one that you need.

5. Yoga

I see Yoga as a new and kind of popular practice these days. It is not new in terms of a historical sense, because Yoga is an ancient system. Yoga is a system not only of physical practices but also mental and spiritual ones.

Technically it balances the mind and body through breathing, meditation, and exercise. We all really need this kind of balance in our stressful world nowadays.

It seems relaxing and can help you deal with managing your stress.

6. Music

Music is an easy and even amazing way to relax and let go of stress at least for the time being. Lots of people listening to music is important and helps them cope with everyday life.

When I ask people what helps them with stress, and lets them calm down and relax, the first thing that most people mention is listening to music.

Interestingly, there is not actually one type of music that helps everyone. We all are different from each other. Not everyone listening to the same type of music feels relaxed.

7. Art Therapy

Creating art and art therapy is an amazing way to not only reduce stress, and unwind, but also explore your inner creativity and talents. Maybe somebody would disagree, but I believe we all are really talented people in one way or another.

In my opinion, creative activities and art can help us to connect with ourselves similarly to meditation or being in nature.

By definition, art therapy is a tool that helps people express themselves and deal with their thoughts and emotions. That way it is possible to reduce stress.

I have never done art therapy, I only love creative activities like painting and writing and they help me feel complete and manage my stress.

8. Biofeedback

I personally never used this technique while dealing with stress. Biofeedback uses software and instruments to measure physiological signals from your body that are related to stress. These signals are heart rate, sweat, muscle activity, and temperature.

Understanding those helps you learn important skills such as mindful relaxation and breathing that help you to manage stress. Biofeedback is a helpful method for stress management and can improve your physical and mental well-being.
