Here we will talk about some instant and interesting ways to calm down and reduce stress. Let’s start!
How to Calm Down and Relax?
I don’t know about you, but I can say that I am a highly sensitive person and I am easily getting stressed, anxious so for me, it is really important to find ways to calm down and relieve stress in the process. How about you?
We all wanna calm down from anxiety and stress and relax. Right? Who doesn’t? Let’s explore some interesting ways how to calm down!
1. Hydrate With Water and Meditate
If we wanna be happy and healthy, we need to have a sufficient amount of water in our bodies and also we need to drink enough water per day.
Water helps stabilize our bodies and emotions too actually so it is a great idea to drink a glass of water when you feel stressed and anxious. It is also great to be near water (stream, river or sea) and that relaxes us.
The same actually goes if we take a bath or shower. Usually, I feel better about such a thing and relaxed. I think even my mind is clearer.
Meditation is another amazing way to let go of stress and calm down. We all know that meditation could help. Meditate and look at the water body, lake or imagine it in your mind’s eye. Just looking at the water has a soothing effect on us.
2. Give Yourself a Hug
I know it may sound weird and I never tried intentionally, but when now I think about it. I think I used to do something like that when I was feeling stressed or sad.
It doesn’t need to be long, just a 10-second hug could boost your mood and make you feel better. A 10-second hug a day can change physiological and biochemical forces in your body.
Self-hugging seems a weird idea for sure, but it is a real thing that can help you combat stress, boost your immune system, and even lower the risk of heart disease.
How to hug yourself? Do what feels comfortable and natural. For example, fold your arms around your body, folding your arms across your stomach or below your chest.
3. Music Therapy
I think this one is pretty commonly used actually. A few years ago I asked people on the internet about what they do to reduce stress.
A lot of them mention listening to music as a way to heal and reduce the stress they were experiencing.
There are even therapists that design special music therapy programs for persons who struggle with depression, for example.
Just put a nice song, music that would help you deal with the anxiety, stress, and or any other type of emotion. This is a great way to calm down.
4. Shake Your Stress Off
I know it sounds weird and I didn’t even hear such a thing before this. At least I don’t remember I had. Apparently, animals like antelopes relieve their stress by shaking.
Now there are people who try to use this kind of technique for humans. Here you can read more about it. It seems really interesting.
5. Do Hand Massage
This method seems simple, and I somehow didn’t hear about it. I was using some pressure points in my hand in the past, but not this one.
They are saying to simply use the thumb of one hand to press around the palm of the other. It is soothing, and actually, when I tried, it seemed nice.
6. Close Your Eyes to Deal with Stressful Situations
I never really was thinking that just a simple way of closing your eyes can help to deal with stress. Maybe you used this tip by accident and never paid attention to it.
Shutting eyes may give your brain a much-needed break and that would be so useful in stressful situations.
7. Sigh to Get Yourself Present at the Moment
This tip means: you need to breathe in a count of five through your mouth, and later you let out a very loud sigh. I never tried this before, but when I feel stressed and need to calm down I am planning to use this.
8. Few Drops of Lavender Essential Oil
Using essential oils can help with relaxation and stress relief. Lavender essential oil is one of the best essential oils to help you relax.
There are some theories on how lavender oil calms people down, but it works.
A 2002 study shows that cancer patients experienced positive changes after enjoying humidified essential lavender oil aromatherapy. They felt less depressed and anxious and enjoyed the positive changes in blood pressure, pain, and sense of well-being.
9. Use Palm Push to Relieve Stress
Do you know that there is an alternative form of medicine called palm therapy that can help you deal with anxiety and stress? I think I heard about it but never paid much attention to it. Areas in palms have a link to the brain, they say.
You can do one simple exercise to relieve stress and calm down. You need to push your palms together and hold around 5 to 10 seconds and that way you can harmonize yourself and that can let you calm down.
