What kind of supplements for stress relief there are? Can supplements really help? If you want to become healthy, you need to think about your diet that is rich in vitamins and minerals.
A healthy lifestyle and diet can help you to manage stress better, only when you have that, you can think about supplements that can also help you.
Stress is dangerous, and many people live in a state of constant stress. It impacts your health, relationships, your well-being, and life can become a personal hell with no way out of it.
If you can find ways to relieve that tension and pressure, to be less stressed in your daily life, you need to do it. This is exactly why I am talking about this subject today when we all are more stressed than we were in the distant past.
Supplements for stress relief may be the answer to your problems, but remember that not always all supplements work for everyone. Be careful! It’s better if you consult your healthcare provider before start taking any kind of supplement.

1. Valerian Root
Valerian is a plant native to Europe, and it has been used to help ease anxiety, nervous restlessness, and sleep disturbances (insomnia) for centuries.
I can surely say for myself that Valerian helped me deal with my anxiety and nervousness in the past, and even now I use it when I feel stressed and nervous. It definitely works much better than other things I tried, and most importantly it’s a natural remedy that can ease your nerves and give you restless sleep.
I am sure that many of you know that lack of sleep is a trigger for stress, so it’s great that this remedy makes it easier to get a good night’s rest and in that way relieve the stress and anxiety that was built during the day.
The question is: How Does It Work?
Strangely, scientists aren’t sure how Valerian works, but it’s something to do with the increased amount of GABA in the brain. GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) not only helps regulate nerve cells but also has a calming effect similar to diazepam (Valium). It’s weaker than this drug, but always better to use natural remedies than chemically made drugs. Right?
2. Theanine
It is an amino acid that is found in green tea and can help with anxiety and high blood pressure. Theanine not only reduces stress but also sharpens focus and concentration.
Do you drink white, black, or green tea? If the answer is yes, you get theanine. Did you know that these teas are the only places where theanine naturally occurs in your diet?
A study shows that theanine reduces anxiety and blood pressure increases in high-stress response adults.
3. Phosphatidylserine
Phosphatidylserine supports cellular function in the brain and occurs naturally in the body. Of course, you can use supplement form, but you need to remember that on some rare occasions, it causes upset stomach and insomnia.
Why do you need it?
There are conflicting results about this supplement’s usefulness for stress and anxiety relief. However, one study found that soy-based phosphatidylserine and lecithin could moderate the human body’s reaction to stress.
4. GABA
I am sure some of you have heard about GABA (Gamma- Aminobutyric Acid) before. What is it? How can it help with stress relief? This is a chemical that is made in your brain, and you can take GABA as a supplement to relieve anxiety, help with stress relief, and improve your mood.
Is it working?
Two studies showed that orally administrated gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) supplements can induce relaxation, enhance immunity under stress conditions, and reduce anxiety.
5. Vitamin B Complex
You have a well-balanced diet, and you should have adequate B vitamins, but it’s not always the case. Stress depletes B vitamin levels so sometimes we need to think about supplements.
Some studies found that B vitamins can improve mood.
Conclusion
These five supplements only can work for you if you have a healthy diet and lifestyle. If you want to be more stress-resistant, firstly you need to think about what you eat. How healthy is your lifestyle?
Only then you can think about supplements for stress relief that can help you manage your stress even better.
You can choose from five supplements: Valerian, GABA, Theanine, Phosphatidylserine, or Vitamin B complex. They can help you to manage stress better and relax, but not all of them will work for you.

Great post, I often forget about these natural options for managing emotions and stress, they are so valuable and effective. I also didn’t realize my black tea has been giving me the Theanine like green tea does, that’s great to hear :). Thanks for the practical and helpful info.
