Hello, fellow citizens of Earth! What is World Environment Day?
Do know what day is today and what it means? Stressed or not, this day is important for all of us. Did you know that this day is World Environment Day?
What Is World Environment Day?
This day occurs on 5 June every year, and this year, of course, is no different. In fact, it is more special than other years. Do you know why? Because you are here. 🙂
World Environment Day needs to remind us of our environment and that we should take action to protect our environment. The theme for 2017 is a connection to nature, connecting people to nature where ever they are.
Of course, you want to know why I am talking about it if this site is dedicated to stress relief.
Why am I talking about World Environment Day?
I think we all know how the environment affects us. You feel relaxed and peaceful in one place.
However, another place makes you feel more stressed, anxious, and nervous. One environment lifts up your mood, but the other makes you feel sad and even depressed.
If you want to feel less stressed, you need to remember to connect with each other and nature and appreciate the world you have.
Maybe it’s even possible to let go of stress forever. Imagine! You live in a beautiful, pristine world, enjoy your surroundings (green environment or sea) and connect with nature. You would never feel stressed for sure. Wouldn’t it be wonderful? To breath fresh air, smell roses, and do what you love in a clean, unpolluted environment? Possibly we all could live a life free of stress like birds in the sky.
How to celebrate World Environment Day? What can you do?
I have some suggestions. You can choose which one is better for you.
- Think about our world, our planet, our environment! Read books, articles, information about environmental issues and try to understand how the world’s environment is suffering? How can you make your environment cleaner, safer and nicer? What do you do to protect it? Think about your actions.
- Do something! For example, plant a tree or join clean-up.
- Try passive or active meditation in nature! Imagine the world’s environment being clean and beautiful for many generations to come.
- Take a holiday! Just go outside and be in nature! Walk in the park or forest! It can take just 5 to 10 minutes. You can find that much time. I promise you that after this, you would feel relaxed, rejuvenated, and more focused. Your mind will be clearer, you can get back to work, and it would be more productive. Nature can help you to reduce stress, and just try and see for yourself!
Being in nature can reduce your stress levels, so use this lovely World Environment Day to connect with nature, with the world, and yourself.
Leave your office, think, let go of stress and worry! I believe that we can’t be free of stress if we don’t acknowledge our environment as essential to our happiness.
Sometimes you need a holiday to manage stress better. Why not today?
Today is the day when you need to remember your roots. You came from nature, and you are part of this beautiful planet, this world. We are all in this together.
Let’s make each day World Environment Day! Go in nature and connect! Enjoy the beauty and appreciate the world!
Do you know a more amazing planet than Earth? Really?
You don’t need another planet. You need yours.

Love the article. I agree about taking care of our home. It is what we were given. You know, I had no idea there was actually a “World Environment Day”! Is that the same as “Earth Day”? Thanks Linda!
It is amazing to hear that you love it.
No. World Environment Day (5.June) is different than Earth Day (22 April). It isn’t the same. World Environment Day is hosted by a different city each year, and it was created in 1972 by the United Nations. Earth Day was created in the USA April 22, 1969, and it is a little more USA oriented. Both days have almost the same goal (protect the environment with activities).
It’s funny because my partner and I have been talking a lot about this lately. We’ve just moved house and live in a new estate full of a lot of concrete, a handful of fake, plastic lawns and a lot of young trees though very few established over a long time. We often go walking and exploring, and when we find the older areas that are full of old trees, and big yards full of trees and grass, and dirt roads (this is my home town that once upon a time was full of dirt roads), the difference we feel in ourselves, and the air we breathe in is very noticeable. We thought maybe having so much of the earth (as in the ground, the dirt, sand) exposed is good for our mental and physical health. It seems pouring concrete and laying fake grasses in our immediate environment affects our well being in more ways than we know, in ways we don’t yet understand. It’s not until you get back to nature that you notice the difference – mainly a reduction in stress for us!
Hi, Angela! Yes, you are right. Nature is essential for our well-being and stress reduction.I love these kinds of places with old trees and grass. In fact, I am lucky to live in a city with a lot of trees, parks, grass and other elements of nature. It isn’t a large city for world’s standard (second largest in my country) so I can always have nature around me. Of course, I love to go to natural areas (forest, nature parks etc.).
I think we don’t fully understand how the environment affects us, our well-being.
Thank you for your comment!
Hi Linda! I had no idea that June 5th was world environment day so thank you for this revelation!! Very exciting because.. I love mother nature. Just did an 8k power walk earlier so I guess it was definitely a great day to do it. I enjoy walking in nature as it helps me relax, de-stress, have more connection with nature… and it is great exercise too.
Great read 🙂
Before writing this article I also didn’t know that. 🙂 I am glad you love nature.
It is true. Nature helps to relax and reduce stress, and we always get a new energy.
Hi Linda, Happy World Environment Day! =) I actually confused it with World Earth Day, but good to know they are two different special days =) I am happy that we celebrate it because our environment really needs a much-needed attention as it is very crucial for our survival. I watched an interesting video and its message was Love your Environment because you need it more than it needs you. I guess I’ll to that. What we do to the environment affects how we live our life. If we take care of it, it takes care of us in return. If we abuse it, it will soon be catastrophic and it will get back to us. That’s why, reading this post makes me reflect on the real importance of the surroundings and how it will sustain my survival in this borrowed life. Thanks again Linda =)
Hi, JR! Thank you for reading and your comment!
At first, some people can’t see the difference between two days. In fact, there is no big difference anyway. Both days remind us how important is our planet, environment, and that we need to protect it.
You are right. We need our planet, and we can’t survive without it. But Earth can live without us and thrive.
I absolutely agree with you – the consequences of people’s actions can be catastrophic.
As I said in this article environment is essential for our well-being, and we even can be less stressful if we would live in a peaceful place with a unpolluted environment. Our surroundings are important for sure. 🙂

You are wonderful. This post was so beautiful and warmed my heart in that fantastical way. Thank you so very much for taking the time to write this and for reminding us all how beautiful our planet is, how lucky we are to be here, and what we can do to connect with that which is most important. Really, thank you so very much! Super love!
Hi, Manika! Thank you! A Beautiful comment! Reading that this article warmed your heart, makes me happy. Thanks!
Sometimes we need reminders.
Since we have moved, my entire family has noticed just how different the air feels. For years we were landlocked in a small city, now we are minutes from the beach. It’s amazing how much more we are connected to nature and each other. I wish more people would connect as we have done. I think if we had more natural connection, we would be more protective. Great article.
Hi, Susie! Thank you for sharing your story! Amazing! I agree. When we connect to nature, we connect to each other, and then we appreciate what we have. I believe we are more peaceful and less stressed.
Thank you for this great article!
We do need to appreciate our earth more, we are so used to taking things for granted.
I will go out today and be grateful for the birds and the trees.
Hi, Paulina! I am always trying to be grateful for everything I have.
Yeah, go outside and see how beautiful is our world. Today is a great day!
